Nintendo and Illumination have announced that they are progressing with the production of a new animated film based on “Super Mario.”
This new Super Mario animated film is scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, in multiple regions, including the United States. It is also planned to be available in theaters in other regions by mid-April 2026.
Chris Meledandri, the founder and representative of Illumination, along with Shigeru Miyamoto, the Fellow of Nintendo and its representative director, will jointly serve as producers. The film will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Universal Pictures and Nintendo are co-funding the production, with Universal Pictures handling the distribution.
The previous Super Mario movie, released in April 2023, grossed 13 billion dollars. Based on the game characters “Super Mario Bros.,” the film depicts Mario and Luigi stumbling into a magical new world through mysterious pipes and confronting a crisis threatening the entire world in this action-packed adventure.
