Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘The Boy and the Heron’ Wins the Oscar

The Academy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles, where Hayao Miyazaki’s film “The Boy and the Heron” won the Best Animated Feature award.

This marks the second time a Japanese film has won this award since Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” in 2003. The film, which Miyazaki directed, co-wrote, and produced over a seven-year period after retracting his retirement announcement, tells the original story of a boy who, during the Pacific War, ventures into a mysterious world after losing his mother.

Also the film has garnered acclaim internationally, winning awards such as the Golden Globe and the British Academy Film Awards, where it became the first Japanese animated film to win in its category.
