The stage of Pokémon battles is coming to Japan! From August 11th (Friday) to August 13th (Sunday), the “Pokémon World Championships 2023” will be held at Pacifico Yokohama.
Pokemon Worlds Celebration Events in Yokohama
This tournament gathers top players from the Pokémon series for intense competitions. Four categories – Game Division, Trading Card Game Division, Pokémon GO Division, and Pokémon UNITE Division – will compete for the title of world champion. The chosen titles for these events are Nintendo Switch RPG “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,” Trading Card Game “Pokémon Card Game,” Android/iOS location-based game “Pokémon GO,” and Android/iOS team strategy battle game “Pokémon UNITE.” The tournament proceedings will be live-streamed through the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
The opening ceremony featured lively taiko drum performances, and Mr. Tsunekazu Ishihara, the president of The Pokémon Company, took the stage. He expressed his excitement about the first-ever world championship taking place in Yokohama, Japan. He mentioned, “Friendship born through competition is one of the most important values of Pokémon, and this world championship is the pinnacle of that sentiment.”
August 11th (Friday) marks the first day of the tournament. Competitions for each category will be live-streamed. Additionally, from August 8th (Tuesday) to August 14th (Monday), the “Yokohama Minato Mirai Event” will take place around the Yokohama Minato Mirai area.
